Faculty Expert on Tax Law Quoted in New York Times

Professor Daniel L. Simmons was quoted in The New York Times on the federal investigation of questionable tax shelters sold by the international accounting firm KPMG. Simmons said that if former partners of the accounting firm are indicted for setting up illegal tax shelters, portending a new toughness by federal prosecutors in enforcing the rules of complex and lucrative tax strategies, it will send shock waves through that part of the tax practice. Simmons was a professor-in-residence with the IRS' Office of Chief Counsel in 1986-87. He co-authored several books on federal income taxation for individuals and business organizations, including the third edition of Federal Income Taxation: Cases and Materials.
