Dean Johnson to Serve as Legal Services President

Dean Kevin R. Johnson was reelected to the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Northern California April 21 and is set to serve again as President of the Board, a position he has held since 2003. 

Dean Johnson has been part of the Legal Services board since 1996, and on the public service law organization's Executive Committee since 1998, and chaired the organization's Personnel and Client Grievance Committee in 2001-02.  Former King Hall Dean Rex Perschbacher, whom Dean Johnson credits for spurring his involvement with Legal Services, was on the organization's Board of Directors from 1990-96.

Founded in 1956, Legal Services of Northern California operates in 23 Northern California counties, offering free legal services to low-income clients.  The organization is dedicated to identifying and defeating the causes and effects of poverty, handling as many as 30,000 cases per year and providing assistance to up to 175,000 annually across its service area.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
