Dean Johnson Quoted in ABA Journal on Plight of Undocumented Immigrant Children
Dean Kevin R. Johnson was quoted in an article in the ABA Journal on the unique problems facing unaccompanied children who attempt to enter the United States without documentation. The article, "Help in Kind," appears in the June 2012 issue.
"These children are vulnerable to exploitation," Dean Johnson said. "They are vulnerable to abuse by fellow migrants or smugglers -- abuse that can range from being charged exorbitant fees to being left in the desert. And if they end up in detention, they are in facilities that weren't built for long-term detention and weren't built for children."
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
