Dean Johnson Publishes Op-ed on Trump Immigration Plan in The Conversation

Dean Kevin R. Johnson published an op-ed in The Conversation that was picked up by media outlets including Salon and the Austin American-Statesman. The article concerns President Trump’s immigration proposal, which would offer a path to citizenship for about 16 percent of the undocumented immigrants in the United States while also building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, increasing immigration enforcement, reducing “extended-family chain migration,” and ending the diversity visa program.

“Ultimately, the Trump proposal would leave roughly 9 million undocumented immigrants subject to deportation,” Dean Johnson writes.

“Organizations ranging from the American Immigration Lawyers Association to the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund believe that Trump’s legalization program for a portion of the undocumented community is not worth the formidable costs,” writes Johnson.
