Dean Johnson Publishes Immigration Essay in La Prensa San Diego
An essay on immigration by Dean Kevin R. Johnson, translated into Spanish, appeared in the March 19 edition of La Prensa San Diego, a weekly Spanish-language newspaper.
Entitled "Sí, Están Aquí Indocumentados, Pero Contribuyen," the article touches on the historical discrimination against immigrants in California, the attempts by contemporary politicians to exploit anti-immigrant sentiment, and calls for reform of immigration laws. The original English version of the article appeared in the Sacramento Bee with the title "Yes, They're 'Illegal,' but They Contribute."
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
