Dean Johnson Publishes Essay on Republican Debate in TIME Ideas

Dean Kevin R. Johnson published a short essay in TIME Ideas, an online feature of Time magazine, on recent statements by Republican presidential candidates regarding immigration. In comparison to previous comments made by some candidates, the discussion of immigration in the October 25 Republican debate was "relatively tame," Dean Johnson writes.  Donald Trump "seemed to make an effort to distance himself from his previous disparagement of the Mexican people" and offer an "olive branch on legal immigration," Dean Johnson observes.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
