Dean Johnson Mentioned as Candidate for Federal Court by FindLaw
In an article urging the incoming Obama administration to nominate leading legal scholars to serve on the United States Court of Appeals, Dean Kevin R. Johnson is listed among the "examples of highly qualified legal scholars who would likely make superb appellate judges" by Carl Tobias, a professor at the University of Richmond School of Law. Arguing that the work of law professors strikingly resembles the responsibilities of appellate judges, who must frequently read, synthesize, and evaluate case precedents, Tobias calls for a return to the once-common practice of nominating legal scholars to the appeals courts, which fell out of favor in recent administrations.
Kevin R. Johnson is dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
