Dean Johnson Discusses Immigration Enforcement
Dean Kevin Johnson was quoted in "Marrying for Love? You'll Have to Prove It," an article in the July 28, 2008, edition of City Limits. Johnson explained how a change in immigration enforcement has led to a logjam in the immigrant naturalization process. The U.S. Customs and Immigration Service has heightened its scrutiny of marriages between U.S. citizens and noncitizens to police marriage fraud — unions primarily to facilitate secure citizenship or permanent residency. In the process, less attention has been paid to providing much-needed services for immigrants.
Dean Johnson, the Mabie-Apallas Public Interest Law Chair holder, is a professor of law and chicana/o studies at the UC Davis School of Law. He is an expert on immigration law and policy.
