Dean Johnson Discusses Driver's Licenses for Undocumented on NPR
Dean Kevin R. Johnson participated in a discussion of the potential benefits and drawbacks of states offering driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants that aired on National Public Radio's Tell Me More program on November 23.
In his comments, Dean Johnson focused on the safety concerns associated with prohibition of driver's licenses for the undocumented. "I'm very interested in public safety and I think that all drivers on the road, hopefully, are licensed because if you have a license, then you've been subjected to some kind of safety testing," he said, adding that "if you don't have a driver's license, you can't obtain liability insurance."
Kevin R. Johnson is dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
