Dean Johnson Comments on Trump University Suit for Washington Post

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for the Washington Post on a class action suit filed against Trump University by former students.  Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who owned and operated the university, has claimed U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel displayed bias against him when he did not issue a summary judgment dismissing the case, but "it's very hard to get a summary judgment," Dean Johnson said.

"The [Supreme] Court has made it clear that only in certain, limited cases will summary judgment be granted.... We have a Constitution that requires civil cases to be submitted to a jury if there's enough fact and dispute - and that's a pretty important right to most people," he said.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
