Dean Johnson Comments on Supreme Court Ruling for Daily Journal
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for the Daily Journal on a recent Supreme Court decision that will make it easier for immigrants challenging deportation orders to stay in the United States while their appeals are pending. The Court's decision rejected the government's argument that appellate courts should apply a stricter standard in issuing a stay in immigration cases.
"I think as a practical matter, this is a significant decision," said Dean Johnson. "I think the Supreme Court wanted to ensure that if Congress was going to change the law, and affect the power of the courts to decide these types of cases, then Congress would have to be explicit about it."
