Dean Johnson Comments on States and Immigration Law for KJZZ

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for Arizona National Public Radio affiliate KJZZ regarding the legal dispute over a Texas law that would make it a felony to harbor undocumented immigrants.

“The issue is actually very clear-cut one: Can state and local governments legislate in this area, when the federal government is in overall control over immigration,” Dean Johnson said. “In [this] case, the district court struck down the Texas harboring law, finding that it was preempted by federal law.”

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
