Dean Johnson Comments on Souter Replacement for SF Chronicle
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the prospect of President Obama appointing a Latino to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter for a recent story in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Dean Johnson stated the appointment of a Latino would be a "symbol of inclusion in American society, much like Thurgood Marshall (the first African American justice) was," adding that he doubts the president would choose an extremist "who will divide the country."
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
