Dean Johnson Comments on Sotomayor for Washington Independent
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the immigration law decisions of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor for an article in the Washington Independent. The article offers an overview of issues that surfaced over the course of the Senate Judiciary Committee's confirmation hearings, including immigration, and examines whether Sotomayor, a Latina, might allow sympathy for immigrants sway her decisions on the bench.
"She is a careful judge in the mainstream of appellate court judges in immigration matters," Dean Johnson commented, also stating that "she follows the precedent closely in deferring to the BIA [Board of Immigration Appeals]."
