Dean Johnson Comments on Schwarzenegger's Legacy for La Opinion
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the legacy of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for an article in the Los Angeles-based Spanish language newspaper La Opinion. The article, "Un gobernador sin cambios," notes that Schwarzenegger has largely failed to deliver on many of the changes he promised, with the exception of having deprived undocumented immigrants of the ability to acquire California drivers licenses.
"It's a somewhat sad achievement, because it seems that the only thing accomplished is to have removed the licenses for the undocumented," Dean Johnson said. "And the situation is not very different from that which existed under the previous governor: a large deficit, the cost of licensing vehicles increases, new taxes, etc."
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
