Dean Johnson Comments on Sanctuary Ordinance for Times, Chronicle, KQED
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for media reports in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and KQED radio on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors' recent vote to override a mayoral veto of a measure that would keep law enforcement from turning over minors to immigration authorities unless they have been found guilty of a felony.
"State and local governments don't necessarily know what someone's immigration status is," Dean Johnson told the Chronicle, and by requiring such reports, "you open the door to racial profiling." He also noted that cities including Los Angeles and New York have policies in place similar to the San Francisco ordinance and that the federal government has never challenged them.
