Dean Johnson Comments on Proposed Budget Cuts for Daily Journal

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for the Daily Journal on the $500 million in budget cuts proposed for the University of California system by Governor Jerry Brown.  Dean Johnson noted that the state's financial support for the University has been declining, and expressed concerns about the potential impacts of further cuts on the School of Law.  Dean Johnson said that rising fees and the increasing financial burdens of a legal education have been especially hard on students interested in public interest law. "It's disappointing when people have the perception all lawyers make tons of money," Johnson said.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
