Dean Johnson Comments for NPR on Hate Crimes Against Latinos

Dean Kevin R. Johnson was interviewed by National Public Radio for a Tell Me More news segment examining the increase in hate crimes against Latinos, which, according to a recent report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, rose by 40 percent between 2003 and 2006.  Dean Johnson suggested that the increase was tied to the "heated" and "at times hateful" public debate regarding immigration, which has included the "scapegoating" of immigrants and Latinos for various social problems.

Kevin R. Johnson is dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
