Dean Johnson Comments on Ninth Circuit for Mercury News

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the ideological orientation of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for an article in the San Jose Mercury News examining the prospects of an appeals court review of SB 1070, Arizona's controversial immigration law.  Dean Johnson said that, despite its reputation as the nation's most liberal court, the Ninth Circuit has grown significantly more moderate in recent years.

"It's changed radically," said Dean Johnson.  "It's a much more conservative court.  You've had eight years of President Bush nominating people, and he didn't nominate any liberals."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
