Dean Johnson Comments for Media on ‘Pathway to Law School' Diversity Program
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for the Fresno Bee on the Pathway to Law School program, a new partnership created by the State Bar of California Council on Access and Fairness. The program pairs 24 California community colleges with six universities and their law schools in order to provide counseling, support, access to information regarding the law school admission process, and targeted outreach to community college students.
"In many ways, we are at a crisis time in the legal profession in terms of economic and other diversity, and the community colleges are much more diverse than the California State (University) or University of California campuses," said Dean Johnson. "It seems important to me to try to reach out to underserved communities."
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
