Dean Johnson Comments on Immigration for U.S. News & World Report
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for U.S. News & World Report on a Department of Justice investigation of Joe Arpaio, the Arizona sheriff whose highly publicized immigration sweeps and harsh treatment of prisoners Maricopa County has generated controversy.
"There are very serious criminal law enforcement issues that are raised when you have local police involved in immigration enforcement," Dean Johnson stated, adding that the investigation is "a signal that this administration's going to try to make sure all immigration enforcement is professionally done."
The U.S. News & World Report article also quotes Clint Bolick '82, director of the Goldwater Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, and mentions a report published by the politically conservative institute as evidence that Arpaio's methods have generated controversy across the political spectrum.
