Dean Johnson Comments on Immigration Ruling for USA Today

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on a federal appellate court ruling upholding an Arizona law that requires employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check employees' immigration status for a story in the USA Today.  The law brought protests from businesses and immigrant advocates who argued that the mandatory check has inaccurately flagged legal residents, increase discrimination against foreign-born employees, and still does not prevent undocumented workers with false identification from getting jobs.

Dean Johnson commented that the federal court ruling upholding the Arizona law could encourage other states to enact similar measures.

Kevin R. Johnson is dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
