Dean Johnson Comments on Immigration Detention for Sacramento News & Review
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the conditions faced by immigration detainees for an article in the Sacramento News & Review. The article concerns problems at the Consumnes Correctional Center in Sacramento County, a contract-detention site for undocumented immigrants.
"There's a big incentive to the counties to rent out space to ICE," said Dean Johnson, but many local jail facilities weren't constructed with long-term detention in mind.
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
