Dean Johnson Comments on Immigration Claim for PolitiFact

Dean Kevin R. Johnson  commented for a report on Politifact, the political fact-checking website sponsored by the Tampa Bay Times, regarding a claim that Republican Senator Marco Rubio sided with President Barack Obama on immigration amnesty, rather than protecting the border from undocumented immigrants as Donald Trump vows to do. The claim, made by Carlos Beruff, who is challenging Rubio in the Florida Republican primary, was rated "mostly false" by Politifact.

Dean Johnson commented that "Rubio supported a compromise bill that did provide for more enforcement and a path to legalization for some undocumented immigrants," but noted that it's wrong to suggest the bill ignored border security.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
