Dean Johnson Comments on DREAM Act for Huffington Post, Sirius Radio

Dean Kevin R. Johnson co-signed a commentary supporting passage of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act ("DREAM Act") that was published in the Huffington Post on December 8.  He also discussed the act on Standup with Pete Dominick, a news talk program on XM/Sirius radio.

The article asserts that the act, which would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who enlist in the armed services or attend college, would represent "a down payment on immigration reform" and "an important step in fixing America's broken immigration system."

"We, a group of university professors who study immigration and the circumstances confronting these young people, and who have many of these students in our classes, believe passing the DREAM Act is the right thing to do for our nation's immediate interests and for our long term security," the article states.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
