Dean Johnson Comments on California Bar Pass Rate for Sacramento Business Journal

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for the Sacramento Business Journal on the passage rate of would-be lawyers who took the California bar exam in July. Only 48.6 percent of test-takers passed, the lowest rate in a decade, although first-time test takers from UC Davis School of Law posted an outstanding 86 percent passage rate, the Business Journal reports.

"I'm not in a position to say why," Dean Johnson said of the decline in the state's overall passage rate, noting that the numbers tend to fluctuate over time.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
