Dean Johnson Comments on Anti-Latino Crime for Houston Chronicle
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the rise in hate crimes against Latinos for a story in the Houston Chronicle. The piece, which was picked up by the Associated Press and republished by several papers around the country, examines recently released Federal Bureau of Investigation statistics that show a 40 percent increase since 2003 in hate crimes against Latinos. "I don't think it's merely coincidence that these hate crimes are going up at the same time there's a violent at times debate over immigration," Dean Johnson states.
Kevin R. Johnson is dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
