Dean Johnson Cited in Washington Independent Immigration Article
A blog entry by Dean Kevin R. Johnson was cited in a recent Washington Independent article analyzing the prospects for immigration reform.
As the economy and healthcare reform have emerged as top priorities for the Obama administration, immigration reform is in peril, the article states. It cites Dean Johnson's entry on the Concurring Opinions web blog in which he suggests that immigration reform ought not to be delayed until next year because "enacting legislation on a contentious issue that touches on volatile issues of race and class, seems unlikely in an election year."
The article also notes Dean Johnson's warnings that as the Obama administration "fashions and implements more and more immigration enforcement measures, it may never be able to push balanced immigration reform through Congress."
Kevin R. Johnson is dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
