Davis Honors Professor Emerita West as Citizen of the Year

The city of Davis has honored UC Davis Law Professor Emerita Martha “Marty” West as its 2023 Citizen of the Year.

As the Davis Enterprise reported, West “has been advocating for the well-being of children and parents in Davis in a variety of ways.”

The Enterprise story details West’s advocacy as well as her achievements and service as a UC Davis Law faculty member.

At UC Davis Law, West taught courses on employment discrimination, labor law, and sex-based discrimination. Her research has focused on discrimination against women faculty in higher education.

During a recent talk at King Hall, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and UC Davis Law alumnus Duncan Crabtree-Ireland ’98 – lead negotiator in the 2023 actors’ strike – credited West with inspiring him to enter the field of labor law.
