Connecticut Supreme Court cites article by Professor Chin

In Moore v. Commissioner of Correction, a unanimous Connecticut Supreme Court cited Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin's article, Effective Assistance of Counsel and the Consequences of Guilty Pleas. The article, co-authored with a former University Cincinnati College of Law student, has been relied upon by many other courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Connecticut Supreme Court agreed with Chin's contention that the Constitution requires criminal defense counsel to comply with prevailing professional norms when advising clients considering plea offers.

Gabriel "Jack" Chin is Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law and holder of the Edward L. Barrett Jr. Endowed Chair at UC Davis School of Law.  He is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.
