Civil Liberties Grant Funds Comic Book

Professors Anupam Chander and Madhavi Sunder, along with Keith Aoki, a professor of law at the University of Oregon, received a $50,000 grant from the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program (CCLPEP) to fund an action hero comic book on Fred Korematsu, a civil rights legend and Presidential Medal of Freedom Winner. Chander and Sunder, along with many members of the of community, successfully lobbied the City of Davis School Board to name a new elementary school after the civil rights legend Fred T. Korematsu.

Chander and Sunder, with law student Raymond Kim '07, won an additional grant from CCLPEP, to be administered through the Davis school system, titled "Why We Named the School Korematsu Elementary." Wendy Ho, Director of Asian American Studies at UC Davis and members of the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association at Davis will help realize the grant.
