Calls to Quit Guantanamo
Professors Diane Marie Amann and Anupam Chander provided commentary this week on increased international pressure to close the detention camp at Guantnamo.
Amann's article, The Committee Against Torture Urges an End to Guantnamo Detention, was published in ASIL Insight. Amann is a member of ASIL's Executive Committee. Her scholarship examines the interaction of national, regional, and international legal regimes at play in efforts to combat atrocity and cross-border crime. She has written extensively on U.S. executive detention and interrogation practices since September 11, 2001.
Chander's op-ed, Quit Guantnamo: Shutting the Detention Camps is the Right Thing to Do, was published in the San Franciscos Chronicle. Chander is a leading scholar in the law of globalization and digitization. He suggests in the piece that closing Guantnamo is important not just for this country's future, but for the present. Quitting Guantnamo will help demonstrate our commitment to not be an imperial power.
