Bob Dunning '73 Writes Tribute to Jerry Adler, Former Davis Mayor and UC Davis Law Professor
Davis Enterprise columnist and UC Davis Law alumnus Bob Dunning ’73 has written a tribute to former Davis Mayor and City Councilman Jerry Adler, who died last week at age 89. Adler also was a professor at UC Davis Law for six years in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
In his Sept. 30 tribute, Dunning remembers Adler as a “a man of great conviction, even greater integrity and a sly sense of humor,” recounting Adler's 12 years on the City Council and two-year stint as mayor, and how Adler, a Brooklyn native, came to Davis in 1968, when the law school was new. He taught for six years before entering private practice.
Dunning also recounts the harrowing story of how Adler, as an Air Force navigator, survived a 1963 plane crash that killed most of the crew.
