Attorneys to Speak at King Hall on 'Guantánamo Justice'

Two West Coast attorneys who have represented detainees at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, will discuss those cases 12-1 pm Monday, March 16, in the Wilkins Moot Courtroom at the UC Davis School of Law.  Featured will be Harry H. Schneider, Jr., a Seattle-based attorney who was part of the legal team representing Salim Ahmed Hamdan, a onetime driver for Osama bin Laden, both in litigation that produced the landmark Supreme Court judgment in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld in 2006 and in Hamdan's subsequent trial before a military commission at Guantánamo.  Joining him will be Bay Area lawyer Mike Trinh, who helped draft an amicus brief in Hamdan and represented other detainees who challenged their detention.

The event, "Guantánamo Justice," is presented by the Law School's new California International Law Center at King Hall (CILC), and is cosponsored by the American Constitutional Society.  Professor Diane Marie Amann, CILC Director and an expert on post-9/11 counterterrorism policy, will moderate.

The featured speaker, Schneider is a partner in Perkins Coie LLP, a leading international law firm with offices in 15 cities across the United States and in China.  A specialist in litigation involving professional liability, intellectual property, complex financial and commercial disputes, and fiduciary or estate and trust matters, he has represented Hamdan on a pro bono basis.
