Associate Dean Amar Comments on Supreme Court Same-Sex Marriage Cases for National Public Radio
Vikram Amar, Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law, commented for National Public Radio affiliate KXJZ on the U.S. Supreme Court oral arguments regarding same-sex marriage cases currently before the court.
In an interview on the KXJZ program Insight, Amar was asked about expectations that Justice Anthony Kennedy would provide the crucial swing vote in deciding whether same-sex couples should have a federally guaranteed right to marry.
"Most commentators, myself included -- if we had to bet -- would say that Justice Kennedy, based on what he's written in the past and also based on the fact that he let all the marriages that were scheduled to happen go into effect last fall, [will probably] go ahead and be a fifth vote to recognize a federal right to same-sex marriage," Amar said.
