Associate Dean Amar Comments on Prop. 8 for KXJZ

Associate Dean Vik Amar was interviewed for a recent KXJZ Insight program examining the potential legal challenges to Proposition 8, which passed on November 4 and wrote a ban on same-sex marriage in the California Constitution.  While stating that he was a strong opponent of Prop. 8, Associate Dean Amar suggested that it would be an "uphill climb" to get the California Supreme Court to overturn the initiative given that the court has been reluctant to invalidate voter initiatives even when they broadly redefined fundamental aspects of state government and programs of interest to minorities.
