Associate Dean Amar Comments on Furlough Challenge for Bee

Associate Dean Vikram Amar commented for the Sacramento Bee on a San Francisco Superior Court judge's ruling regarding whether Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger lacked the authority to order across-the-board furloughs for state workers.  Judge A. James Robertson ruled that lawyers for the California Association of Professional Scientists failed to make the case that the governor abused his discretion, but Associate Dean Amar suggested that the matter will ultimately have to be decided by a higher court.

"Trial court judges are really placeholders in these kinds of cases," said Associate Dean Amar. "Ultimately, this is something that the California Supreme Court is going to have to resolve."
