Associate Dean Amar Comments on Furlough Case for Bee
Associate Dean Vikram Amar commented for the Sacramento Bee on the recent California Supreme Court decision upholding the legality of state worker furloughs imposed as a cost-cutting measure in 2009. The court ruling also restrained future governors from ordering furloughs for union-represented workers unless authorized to do so in labor contracts or by the Legislature.
"Bottom line is the plaintiffs lose, but so does the governor," said Associate Dean Amar. "It rejects all the grounds the governor advanced for unilateral power."
