Associate Dean Amar Comments for Bee on Supreme Court Furlough Case
Associate Dean Vikram Amar commented for the Sacramento Bee on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's request that the California Supreme Court take over a set of lawsuits challenging the governor's authority to furlough state workers as a means of closing the state budget deficit. Doing so would bypass the appellate courts and save time and money, advocates say, but response to the request has been divided among employee unions.
Associate Dean Amar said that if the Supreme Court agrees to take the cases it could render a decision before Schwarzenegger leaves office at the end of this year. "And if the budget is delayed again into September... the decision could come before then."
