Assoc. Dean Amar Comments for Mercury News on Free Speech Case
Associate Dean Vikram Amar commented for the San Jose Mercury News on the City of Santa Cruz's petition for a U.S. Supreme Court hearing of a free speech case brought by a city council critic who was arrested after giving a Nazi salute during a council meeting and refusing to leave. Amar said the Court was unlikely to take up the case, in part because the free speech issue involved is intertwined with process issues.
"It's not a very clean setting for the Court to get at the First Amendment issue," he said.
