Amann Talks International Law on Fox News Radio

Diane Marie Amann, professor of law at UC Davis, was interviewed on a number of Fox News Radio affiliates, including KFBK in Sacramento, on Medellín v. Texas, a case set for oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on the day of her interviews, October 10, 2007.

The case concerns whether President George W. Bush overstepped when he ordered a state court to enforce the International Court of Justice judgment in Mexico v. United States (Avena) (2004) by means of "review and reconsider[ation]" of the cases of Medellín and 50 other Mexican nationals condemned to death without being told of their right under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations to call their consulate for help with their defense.

Professor Amann's scholarship examines the interaction of national, regional, and international legal regimes in efforts to combat atrocity and cross-border crime. Recent works have focused on legal responses to U.S. policies respecting executive detention at Guantánamo and elsewhere, and on the use of foreign and international law in U.S. constitutional decisionmaking.
