Alumni Key to Applicants saying YES

Law school recruitment is increasingly competitive. Overall ranking, LSAT scores, and bar passage rates continue to influence prospective students, but what most applicants want is insider information on what to expect if they choose UC Davis School of Law.

The School of Law's CARES (Committed to Assist Recruitment & Enrollment of Students) program, and its alumni volunteers are providing that information, and the numbers are showing it makes a difference. Prospective students who connect with alumni are more apt to choose UC Davis School of Law over other top-tier law schools. The insight and information alumni convey about the Law School's academic strengths—our legal specialties, faculty expertise, legal skills training, clinical programs, and certificate programs—contribute to an admitted student's understanding of the core curriculum and elective clusters. Prospective students benefit from alumni enthusiasm for the School of Law experience—the camaraderie among students, the support from faculty and staff, the openness to express ideas, and the backing to make a difference within the Law School and in the community.

Already, a number of alumni have volunteered to make phone calls to admitted students. The goal for this year is for each admitted student to receive a phone call from a CARES volunteer within a few days of being admitted. To accomplish this, CARES needs 200 volunteers by mid January.

To volunteer, please visit the CARES Website and provide the requested information, or contact Cristina Gapasin at [email protected] or 530-752-2202.
