* All loans are subject to recall.

Non-Circulating Books

Many books are "NON-CIRCULATING" (e.g. basic reference sources and popular sets) to assure their availability at all times. Please do not remove non-circulating books from the Library stacks; these books are meant to only be used in the Mabie Law Library. "NON-CIRCULATING" books are marked with a special label or stamped inside the front cover.

Renewals

All loans may be renewed twice unless there has been a recall or hold request for the item. Renewals may be made in person or by phone (530 752-3327).

Reserve books may be signed out overnight by law students and faculty four hours before closing.

Due to the high demand of some reserve materials (especially, "Course Reserve" materials) renewals will either be limited or require the return of material(s) to the library for renewal.

Self-Charging Terminals

Circulating books may be checked out by law students and faculty at self-charging terminals located on each level of the stacks and in the basement. Instructions for self-charging are located at each terminal. Law students use their student ID card where asked for Bar Code. After hours, books should be taken to self-charging terminals, or a note should be left for Library staff in the book return slot at the Circulation/Reserve desk.

Student account information

Law students can access circulation account information, i.e. items checked out and the due date for each item from MORT -- View My Record. It requires logging in with student registration (barcode) number.

Book Returns

Mabie Library books and interlibrary loan books borrowed from libraries other than Shields Library must be returned to the Mabie Library Circulation desk or after hours dropped in the book return slot at the Circulation desk or in the book drop located outside of the building, which is on the north side ramp near the north side entrance. All Shields books must be returned to the Shields Library directly.

Fines

Books not returned after two recall or overdue notices will be billed at the cost of the book plus a $35.00 processing fee per book (reduced to $15.00 for books returned within one week of the receipt of the bill). Charges for damaged books will be assessed on an individual basis.

Borrowing from Shields Library

Law students and faculty may borrow items from other campus libraries, but must first activate a separate account with the Shields Library. For faculty, with an activated account, the law library can set up a proxy which will allow the library staff to check items out in your name. RAs and TAs can also set up proxy accounts for faculty. Proxy forms are available at the Mabie Circulation desk. All others must check out items in person. All Shields books must be returned to the Shields Library directly.

Interlibrary Loans

Books from other libraries may be requested by Law School Students and Faculty at the Mabie Law Library Circulation desk or a request can be sent by email to lawlibref@ucdavis.edu. Loans can take a week or more to be received from the lending institution. Brief items may be obtained by fax or e-mail.

UC Davis Law students may also place an online interlibrary loan request for materials found through the MELVYL catalog by using the REQUEST button located on the MELVYL screen. See http://cdlib.org/inside/instruct/request/index.html or ask for assistance at the Reserve desk.

All books are subject to recall. Books may be renewed if no holds are pending. Renewals may be made at the Circulation desk or by phone.
