Supreme Court Nominations and Background - Guide from ProQuest

This guide was created by ProQuest, a publisher on various topics.

As ProQuest created this guide, Supreme Court Nominations and Background, the links are NOT keyed to allow direct access to the nomination hearings. What this guide does provide is a list of hearings grouped by year and listed with the name of the Supreme Court Justice.

As a current, UC Davis law or UC Davis, student, faculty or staff one can view the nomination hearings listed by this guide by following the steps below. Be sure to log in through the VPN before following the steps below.

The easiest way to retrieve the nomination hearing materials for the Supreme Court Justice is to:

  1. Use the "Advance Search" option in ProQuest Congressional
  2. On the left under "Document Types" uncheck the "Select all"
  3. On the left under "Document Types" check "Hearings 1824-Present"
  4. Copy the title of the hearing as listed in the ProQuest guide, Supreme Court Nominations and Background
  5. Cut and paste the title into the search box on the right under "All fields except full text"
  6. Click on "Search" on the right
  7. (See the image below for an example of how the search screen should appear)

Please note: any links to CRS reports, created before 2004 and after 2012, are not available through ProQuest Congressional. However, one can search on line, as sometimes there are free postings of CRS reports.
