English for Legal Professionals
Since 1992, this intensive program has provided an ideal training ground for learning legal terminology in English. Interactive and supportive, English for Legal Professionals provides excellent preparation for the Orientation in U.S.A. Law program, which immediately follows the English for Legal Professionals Program each summer. This course strictly focuses on improving English language and communication skills.
English for Legal Professionals consists of approximately 30 hours of classroom instruction per week. The program includes these core classes: Legal Reading and Analysis, Vocabulary and Legal Writing Seminar. The program provides an introduction and review of English as used by legal professionals in the United States.
Lectures, discussions and optional informal activities enable participants to improve their command of English legal terminology.
Through review of the basic structure of the U.S. legal system and examination of current court cases and legal briefs, participants improve writing, negotiation and oral communication skills pertaining to legal and business topics.

English for Legal Professionals is designed for intermediate to advanced level English speakers interested in improving their English language skills for success in legal-oriented careers. Participants include practicing attorneys, judges, pre-LL.M. students, business professionals, and those preparing for the Orientation in U.S.A. Law program.
Preparation for LL.M. and/or Orientation in U.S.A. Law
The UC Davis academic year and summer LL.M. programs are both taught entirely in English. In addition, the Orientation in U.S.A. Law program is conducted entirely in English. Therefore, the English for Legal Professionals program is ideal preparation for those who wish to improve their English language skills before beginning these programs. English for Legal Professionals is conveniently scheduled immediately before the Orientation in U.S.A. Law program.

We strongly recommend enrolling by May 10 or earlier to ensure adequate time for the local U.S. embassy in your country to process the necessary visa for entering the U.S. We have been informed by past participants that U.S. embassies in some countries can take from four to six weeks to process non-immigrant visas (students, business or tourist).
