Professor Aaron Tang will discuss recent and future U.S. Supreme Court cases as a way to explore the future direction of U.S. democracy. Will the U.S. Supreme Court continue to expand unchecked executive power or will it provide limits consistent with the U.S. Constitution and rule of law? Professor Tang is a renowned Constitutional law expert. In addition to his many published articles on U.S. Constitutional issues, he recently completed the 3rd segment in a nationally broadcast PBS series on civil discourse.
Aaron Tang is the host and moderator of PBS's newest, Emmy-nominated TV show, Breaking the Deadlock, which Variety magazine called “more erudite than The West Wing and more intense than 24.” Tang is also a frequent Supreme Court commentator whose essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Atlantic, Slate, Politico, USA Today, and elsewhere. He is the author of Supreme Hubris: How Overconfidence is Destroying the Court—and How We Can Fix It (Yale University Press, 2023).
Tang’s teaching and research interests include constitutional law, federal courts, and education law. His recent articles have appeared in the California Law Review, Columbia Law Review, New York University Law Review, Northwestern Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, Stanford Law Review, and Virginia Law Review, among other journals. His article, "Rethinking Political Power in Judicial Review," won the Association of American Law Schools Scholarly Paper Competition.
