Societies are demanding more transparency and access to information with the goal of building trust between citizens and their governments and representatives. In spite of having greater access to information and drafting many laws in Western countries that provide information, there is a trend toward distrust in the government and democracy. This has resulted in less trust in governmental and other traditional institutions and a movement toward favoring conditions for authoritarian leadership challenging civil and human rights.
This talk will be given by Professor Nicolas Cobo, a professor of law from Pontifica Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile.
Professor Cobo will talk about these trends and how they are impacting the Latin American region such as Peru, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina and how they might evolve in the future unless we become aware of the challenge and undertake political reforms.
