The Honorable Carlton Davis will be the featured speaker for the 7th annual MLK Day of Service and Celebration at UC Davis School of Law.
Judge Davis is a Sacramento County Superior Court Judge who was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2020 – becoming the first Black man appointed to judgeship in Sacramento County in 20 years. Before his appointment, Judge Davis served as Court Commissioner of Sacramento Superior Court for three years. Prior to his unanimous selection for said position, he served as a Deputy District Attorney for a total of 13 years, beginning in Riverside County but spending the majority of his career close to home in Sacramento County. Judge Davis received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University before attending the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where he received a graduate student community service honor. Since entering the legal practice, Judge Davis has continued to be an active community member; previously presiding as President of the Wiley Manuel Bar Association, currently presiding as Co-Chair of Community Engagement for the Sacramento Superior Court, instructing judges and attorneys throughout the state of California on jury selection and implicit bias, and creating a legal mentorship program for McGeorge and King Hall law students.
