Join the UC Davis School of Law Environmental Law Society for our annual symposium on Friday, March 14, 2025, at King Hall. This year’s theme, “Resilient by Design: Climate Adaptation & the Future of Housing in California,” will explore critical challenges at the crossroads of sustainability and housing.

The event will feature four panels discussing key issues shaping California's future, including affordable housing, climate-resilient communities, and resource management. Additional speaker information to follow.

9 a.m. : Keynote Discussion 

9:45 a.m. : Panel 1—Debating Climate Action on the Coast - Sea Level Rise & Flooding

A panel on building resilient coastal communities, exploring nature-based and engineered solutions to sea level rise and flooding, with a focus on equity in state-level responses.

11 a.m. : Panel 2—The WUI & Beyond - Wildfire Impacts on Homeowners Across the State

A discussion of the impact of wildfires on homeowners and communities statewide, highlighting unique housing pressures and adaptation strategies in the wildland-urban interface.

12:15 p.m. : Lunch

Join us for a lunchtime talk with UC Davis Professor Emerit Roberta L. Millstein, author of The Land Is Our Community: Aldo Leopold's Environmental Ethic for the New Millennium. Lunch will be provided.

1:30 p.m. : Panel 3—Sustaining Rural Landscapes - Managing for Natural Resources and Community Resilience

A panel exploring the diverse challenges rural communities face, from groundwater access to broader resource needs. 

2:45 p.m. : Panel 4—Where to Next - Infill, Sprawl, or "California Forever"?

A forward-looking discussion on balancing California’s housing needs with long-term sustainability.
