Silenced Futures: The Taliban's Stranglehold on Girls' Education in Afghanistan and its Consequences

In the heart of Afghanistan, a profound challenge threatens the aspirations and potential of countless young girls – a challenge that goes beyond the mere denial of education. This issue extends to a systematic suppression imposed by the Taliban, where girls are forbidden from pursuing an education. "Silenced Futures" encapsulates the stark reality faced by these girls who, under the Taliban's stranglehold, are deprived of the fundamental right to study and shape their own destinies. It becomes evident that the struggle extends beyond the right to learn – it is a battle for the soul of a nation, a fight to reclaim the silenced futures and empower Afghan girls to shape a brighter tomorrow.

Pamir Hazem, a distinguished Professor of Law at Herat University's School of Law, has dedicated the majority of his professional life to the legal education sector. Following the Taliban's takeover, he relocated to Davis and found refuge at the UCD School of Law, where he was appointed as a scholar at risk through the chancellor's emergency funds. Currently pursuing his LLM at UCD School of Law, Prof. Hazem has not only contributed significantly to legal academia but has also been actively involved in projects aimed at organizing legal education for Afghan girls and women. Collaborating with colleagues from around the world, he has played a pivotal role in advancing educational opportunities for Afghan women. Beyond his academic endeavors, Prof. Hazem is passionately engaged in establishing high schools for Afghan girls, showcasing his unwavering commitment to empowering and uplifting communities through education.
